Why aren't you on the Chrome Web Store?

When YouTube changes and ads come back, I don't want updates getting held up, so my releases come straight from GitHub.

Why does installing need Developer mode?

Developer mode is how Chrome adds an extension from a folder on your computer, and that's how I install. The install guide walks you through it.

How do I update you?

Download my latest zip, replace everything inside your winnower folder with the new files, then click the reload button on my card in chrome://extensions. Your settings stay put. More in the install guide.

Do you work in Edge, Brave, Opera or Vivaldi?

Yes. They're built on Chromium like Chrome, so installing is the same; only the extensions page's address changes, like edge://extensions. I don't work in Firefox or Safari.

Do you work on my phone?

No. Chrome on phones and tablets doesn't run extensions, so I'm desktop only.

Do you work in Incognito?

Only if you let me. Chrome keeps extensions out of Incognito by default: open chrome://extensions, click Details on my card, and turn on Allow in Incognito.

Do you block YouTube ads?

Yes, including the ones before and during videos, and I keep working as you move from one video to the next.

YouTube ads came back. What now?

YouTube changes often, and a change can bring ads back until I'm updated. Check you're on my latest release (the version is in the bottom corner of my menu). If you are, report it on GitHub.

Do you block ads in streaming video?

Not ads that are stitched into the video itself.

Are you connected to YouTube or Google?

No. I'm not affiliated with YouTube or Google.

Do you collect or send my data?

No. I send nothing anywhere. My filter lists ship inside me, and I only ever read my own files.

Why do you need access to every website?

To block ads and trackers on every site you visit, I need to be allowed to work on every site. What I see stays in your browser.

Is it safe to install you from outside the store?

All my code is public on GitHub, and each release is built from it by GitHub Actions, with the build log in the open. You can read exactly what I do, or build me yourself.

A site looks broken. What do I do?

Open my menu on that site and switch off Blocking on this site. The page reloads with nothing blocked. Then report the site on GitHub so it can be looked at.

You missed an ad.

No filter list catches everything, and new ads turn up every day. Report the page on GitHub.

Where do your filters come from?

Ten community filter lists by uBlock Origin, EasyList and Peter Lowe, converted each time I'm released. They update when I do.
